Cousins on DL; Marlins snap skid

Scott Cousins’ last played on June 12th against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Due to a lower back strain he was placed on the 60-day DL on August 5th. I was really hoping he would be back by this weekend for the Giants series, but the recent transaction likely has him out for the remainder of the year. I think we all wanted to see if the Giants would respond to the May 25th incident in which Cousins collided with Buster Posey at home plate to score the winning run.

Cousins is best known for his collision with Posey, which broke the catcher’s leg. The day after the collision, Cousins was not in the lineup. I covered the aftermath of the incident  here. And the incident itself, very briefly here. Hopefully Scott will get his major league career rolling and go on to be known for things far better than sidelining Buster Posey for 2011.

Last night the Marlins ended a seven game slide by a solid performance from starter Ricky Nolasco. Nolasco went eight innings and struck out four before Leo Nuñez recorded his 32nd save of the year. Logan Morrison and Mike Stanton each had RBI hits for the Marlins in the first inning. The Marlins improved to 56-62 on the year as they sunk the Giants 2-1. If Florida goes on a highly unlikely 44 game winning streak to close out the season, they would have their first 100 win year in franchise history. Again, highly unlikely…
