The Miami Marlins home run feature is currently being erected in center field in the New Marlins Ballpark. The structure has been rumored for quite a while, and this is the first real confirmation of its existence.
Miami hosted a Media Day at the Marlins park recently, and in this photo gallery on Marlins.com there is a picture of the area in center field where this (quite large) fountain is being constructed. It is unclear at the moment whether or not this will be a fountain with running water, as was proposed, or just a flamboyant, carnival-looking attraction.
This actually sounds pretty cool. Maybe they could train fish to leap out of the air and sing Take Me Out to the Ballgame. 🙂
I think this will draw fans whether or not they like it, so it’ll be for the good of the team. However, from my standpoint, I prefer a more subtle home run tradition.
What they should have done was an orange in remembrance of the Orange Bowl stadium that used to be there… though people might say we’re copying the Mets.
That’s not a bad idea, but they have incorporated orange into their color scheme.
Almost every team has some sort of home run gimmick, but an actual structure dedicated to a home run is kind of rare. I don’t think we’re copying the Mets, but just making their idea our own.
