Jose Fernandez made his 21st big league start Friday night at home against Cleveland. He was coming off an eight-inning, 13-strikeout shutout performance earlier in the week against Pittsburgh. Fernandez, the 21-year-old Cuban defector, found a way to top his previous outing by going eight-shutout innings and striking out 14 Indians. He threw 107 pitches in Miami’s 10-0 rout of the Tribe.
Logan Morrison put on a show offensively, going 4-for-5 with 4 RBI and finishing a homer shy of the cycle. LoMo tripled in two runs during Miami’s five-run eighth inning. Four different Marlins–Morrison, Marisnick, Yelich, and Hechavarria–all had three or more hits in the game.
Jacob Turner will get the start tonight against Zach McAllister at Marlins Park.
